Celebrate Ostkakans Dag in our Café with a special Swedish cheesecake dish, with whipped cream and jam, for the occasion! Open 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Ostkaka is a crustless cake with flavors of almond, not to be confused with American cheesecake. Today we might use cottage cheese to make this sweet dessert but in the old days milk and rennet were used and were what gave this cake its distinguishing texture. The earliest mentions of ostkaka date back to 1530. Different regions in Sweden have their own version of the recipe and presentation. Jam or "saftsås", a sweet syrup made from berries or fruit cooked much like a simple syrup, is often used to sweeten this traditional treat. Whipped cream is a nice topping that blends beautifully.
