Sweden celebrates its National Day on June 6th because that was the date in 1523 when Gustav Vasa was elected as the Swedish king, leading to the dissolution of the union with Denmark. Traditionally, Swedish National Day is celebrated at Skansen in Stockholm on June 6th, in the presence of the royal family, with music, speeches, and the handing out of flags. The celebration is on national TV. Many people raise the Swedish flag outside their homes, in public places, and at businesses to show their pride in the country. There is also usually a ceremony at the Royal Palace in Stockholm because the Royal Palace is also traditionally open to the public with free admission.

In honor of Swedish National Day, our café will be open 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.!
