Join art professor Alison Aune in a Swedish folk art Family workshop. Alison will lead participants in creating Fantastical Kurbits. Alison will give a brief gallery tour to share the background of Dalmålning, also known as kurbits painting or Dala painting, which flourished in Sweden in the 18th and 19th centuries. The kurbit was a fantastical gourd plant commonly used in folk paintings in Dalarna Sweden, as a symbol of good luck. After the gallery tour, participants will create their own creative kurbit interpretations as we revive the tradition using a contemporary color palette.
Fee: $20 members, $25 everyone else. All participants will create and take home their own kurbits folk art painting, as well as a coloring book made specifically for this workshop. We will be using acrylic paints, so this workshop is not suitable for preschool-age children.
